Rod grew up in the Welsh mountains and has been passionate about the outdoors ever since. A geologist by training, he worked in the environmental consulting industry in the UK and South Africa before becoming a full time outdoor guide 1999. Then based in South Africa, he returned to North Wales in 2000 to work at Plas y Brenin (The National Mountain Centre). He has subsequently worked for a number of North Wales outdoor education centres and is currently self employed.
He is a qualified teacher and holds high level qualifications in both mountaineering (MIC) and paddle sports (BCU Level 4 Inland Kayak, Sea Kayak and Open Canoe). He is an accredited practitioner of the Institute of Outdoor Learning (APIOL) and always enthusiastic to learn more about the great outdoors and pass this on.
Rods personal adventures include running, biking, walking, climbing and paddling all over the UK, aswell as in North and South America, Africa, Europe, India, Nepal and New Zealand. 2014s adventures include ice climbing in Scotland and Norway, DoE canoeing expeditions to Scotland, a youth sea kayaking expedition to Norway, and open canoeing in Canada.
